Mission

BookFest is an annual regional literary event that takes place all over the area for a week. BookFest's aim is to boost reading by eliciting and organizing various festive activities linked to literature. On the weekend, activities are centered on the host towns of Chandler, Gaspé, Les Îles, New Richmond, and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.

The BookFest team's mission is:

To lead the way to discovering and increasing the pleasure of reading by holding an annual celebration which involves the various communities on the Gaspe Coast and Magdalen Islands.

We believe that if people's reading habits are improved from early childhood on, they will be better equipped to improve their living conditions and participate in their region's development. The steering committee sees reading as something that is part of an ongoing process involving individuals, families, schools, and the community (local, intercultural, regional, national, and international). BookFest has chosen a festive approach that is accessible and decentralized, where communication and sharing are focal points for stimulating reading.
