BookFest Crossword Contest 2012

Winners : English-language BookFest Crossword Contest

The BookFest team is pleased to present the winners of the first English-language crossword game in its annual Crossword Contest.

The BookFest team received 49 puzzles, many of which were filled out by secondary school students from the Eastern Shores School Board schools. Both winners also come from those schools:

Jessie Aubut McWhirter, Shigawake Port-Daniel School: regional prize

Port_Cartier_Riverview_School_3Jacob Pagé, Riverview School at Port-Cartier: participation prize.

The winners of the regional prize and the participation prize each received a set of books worth $150. Some of the books were bought at the Mega Book Sale at HopeTown, organized by the Gaspesie Literacy Council. Also, many books were supplied by the following publishers: Annick Press, Fitzhenry and Whitesides, Groundwood Books, HIP, Orca Book Publishers and Random House.

The contest took place from March 2nd till April 8th, thanks to the collaboration of CASA (Committee for Anglophone Social Action). You can now download the solution.

We would like to remind everyone that: The crossword puzzle was designed by some dynamic young people in the Gaspé area. Wishing to participate in the BookFest event while improving their knowledge of English, these secondary V students designed several interesting puzzles. The one used for the contest was chosen for its quality, for fitting in with our literary theme, and for the care put into crafting it. The creators are: Marie-Ève Cotton, Maxime Jalbert and Mélissa Paradis.

Many thanks from BookFest to Ms. Josée Vézina, an English teacher at the Polyvalente Antoine-Roy in Rivière-au-Renard, as well as to her pupils, for their greatly appreciated involvement.
